Morning Sunshine Smoothie
For those of you just beginning a raw diet or looking for some basic smoothie instructions, I’m providing the steps to how I made my smoothie this morning. You’ll need a high powered blender (I have a blendtec) for blending the greens well and the beet.
- 2 - 3 cups Mixed Greens
- Pineapple Juice (mine had been sitting, so it built up juice, but this is so not necessary, just use extra water)
- Water (enough to cover your greens)
- 1/4 of a beet, peeled
- 1/2 cup Frozen Strawberries*
- 1 Frozen Bananna*
- 1/4 cup Blueberries
- 1/4 cup Pineapple
*note: for my frozen fruit, they are not bought frozen, I freeze them myself. Strawberries and bananas can often be bought at a super cheap rate when they are abbot to expire and are so easy to freeze!!
Put in as many greens as you can stand (about 2-3 cups), I will use just about anything except spinach, to me the only thing that spinach is good to DRINK with is carrot juice. I prefer to use my spinach in salads and things, it comes out too bitter in juice for me. Fill your water right about the same height as your greens, you can also use the pineapple juice instead, or half and half. Blend that on high until your greens are liquified… it’s the worst getting little bits of green in your smoothie, might as well be a salad at that point. After this, add your beet to make the smoothie a beautiful pinkish reddish burgundy color as well important vitamins like betalains. After that is all blended up, add the rest of your ingredients and blend. Tada!
